The Humewood Golf Club team represented by Rob Wallace, Keith Simpson, Robert Watt and Fraser Finlaison won the Annual Senior Inter Club tournamentplayed on the 14th and 15th November, at the Cradock Golf Club. The tournament, which is held in the country every year to bring Senior Amateur golf to the “Platteland”, was once again a great success. Cradock Golf Club went out of their way to prove that the country clubs can accommodate a large tournament of this nature. A wonderful Karoo pooitje was held on Saturday followed by long hours of making new friends.
The course proved that is was no push over with many finding the treacherous canal a bit expensive on golf balls! The player’s comments were that considering the drought in the Karoo, the golf course was the best it has been in for many years.
Leading after round one was Somerset East, Walmer Golf Club and Humewood all on a score of 108 followed closely by Bedford on 107.
Round two, saw the teams fighting for that elusive trophy with Zwartenbosch having the best second day score of 111 points from local favourites Cradock on 110. However, the ages and experience of the Humewood side counted in the end, and completed round two on a score of 108 points to win the trophy for the first time.
The individual, 36-hole laurels went to Deon Nel from Walmer Golf Club with scores of 40 and 38 points respectively.
